![]() ![]() We know who she is and what she loves, and what her friends and family are like. ![]() Anyway, let’s talk about Maya and the Rising Dark, shall we?įrom the very beginning, Maya comes through strongly in the writing. I really need to catch up with these! On the bright side, I’ve already read September’s book, so all that’s left are July, October, and November… and December really soon, probably. It’s first in a series, and it’s also the June book for Black Girls with Magic and Books club. Maya and the Rising Dark is a middle grade novel by Rena Barron. Armed with her stories and her father’s staff, and her two best friends at her side, Maya has one goal: to save her father from the Dark. Suddenly Maya is thrust into a world she thought didn’t exist. Maya had always thought they were just stories, until one day, when all color is leeched from the world, and her father is taken by a shadow. Unfortunately, her dad is always away on business trips, but at least when he does come home, he tells her all these fantastic stories and legends about magical creatures. And one of her favorite things is when she gets to spend time with her dad. Math bores her but she has extra tutoring anyway. She loves superheroes and hanging out with her friends. ![]()
